Making washroom hygiene easier to manage in supported living

In supported living, reliable hygiene provision needs to work for the people using the facilities and the teams responsible for maintaining them. Products must remain readily available, while dispensing systems must give staff control over consumption and replenishment without adding unnecessary work to their daily routines.

After being introduced to Satino by MediPlus Healthcare Group, Care4U began rolling out a suite of hygiene solutions across its properties in April 2026. The Satino setup is now in use across 15 Care4U properties, with a further 12 planned as the organisation extends the same approach to more of its supported living washrooms

The washroom hygiene challenge in supported living

Care4U supports people with mental health conditions, learning disabilities, autism, dementia and associated complex needs. For its facilities, it needed hygiene products that were easy to use, dependable and appropriate for residents with different sensitivities, including a fragrance-free soap. With washrooms to maintain across multiple sites, it also needed a supplier it could rely on for ongoing support and expertise.

Stock management was another consideration, as staff had to keep shared washrooms stocked across multiple properties. Care4U wanted to order and replenish supplies less often, while keeping a closer eye on how much was used. This comes at a time that the wider healthcare sector is moving towards lower-impact procurement in line with ambitious NHS net-zero targets. For Care4U, this reinforced the value of a washroom setup that could use resources efficiently while remaining practical across multiple supported living properties.

Satino hygiene solutions for supported living

MediPlus Healthcare Group surveyed the Care4U properties before recommending a Satino specification designed around how the washrooms are used and managed.

The setup includes Satino Manual Clean&Care dispensers with Satino Foam Soap Free, alongside Satino disinfectant gel and Satino toilet seat cleaner.

Foam Soap Free is fragrance- and colourant-free and dermatologically tested, giving Care4U a suitable option for settings where skin sensitivity needs to be considered. The disinfectant gel provides an additional hand hygiene measure, while the toilet seat cleaner gives residents a way to clean the seat before use.

For toilet paper provision, Care4U uses the Satino HYGINITY Jumbo Toilet Paper Dispenser with Satino jumbo toilet rolls. The larger rolls allow for longer refill intervals, and the dispenser’s integrated roll stop is designed to limit excessive consumption.

Together, the system gives staff better control over consumable use and helps them manage stock more predictably, while helping maintain reliable availability for residents across shared washrooms.

The impact on stock and washroom management

Since introducing the Satino systems, Care4U says the change has made a difference to both ordering and day-to-day maintenance and has reported fewer operational issues.

Malik Shahwaiz Khan, director at Care4U, said: “Since introducing Satino, we’ve found that we’re ordering washroom products less frequently, which has made stock easier to manage across our properties. We’ve also had no toilet blockages since the new setup was introduced, which has made a real difference for the teams looking after the properties.”

Reliability has also been reflected in the dispensing systems themselves. MediPlus Healthcare Group has reported no failures of the dispenser push mechanisms since installation began, giving Care4U added confidence as the system is introduced across further locations. And for staff looking after several properties, fewer issues with the equipment can make a practical difference to the time spent maintaining washrooms.

Taking Satino hygiene solutions into more care facilities

As Care4U extends the setup to more properties, MediPlus Healthcare has been working directly with Satino to address questions during installation.

Usman Siddiqui, area manager at MediPlus Healthcare, said: “What’s worked well is having a responsive supplier and support when we need it. That has made the rollout much easier to manage. Having that manufacturer relationship means we can get answers quickly and keep the rollout moving as Satino is introduced into more supported living settings.”

Care4U’s experience shows why supported living providers need to consider residents and staff when choosing washroom products. As the rollout continues, Care4U will be looking for the same ease of use and day-to-day reliability across its remaining properties.Help your teams spend less time dealing with washroom issues and more time focused on the people they support.
